DELAYED: Hokma and the way of wisdom

THIS HAS BEEN DELAYED AND SHIFTED TO BE OUR THIRD THEME. SLATED TO RUN IN NOVEMBER.

The second theme that we will run will be a much more practical theme (not that the Gospel isn’t practical), and we will look specifically at the book of Proverbs and the wisdom of God. I’ll probably link in the two themes via this verse:

“but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.”

1 Corinthians 1:24

This takes us from looking at Christ and the wisdom of God. And as you can see from this verse, Jesus is actually the embodiment of the wisdom of God! It’ll be a pretty fun theme with all kinds of things we apply to our lives.

Often times we think that the book of Proverbs is just useful for its short pithy statements (hence the name Proverbs) and we miss a lot of what’s going on in the book of Proverbs. Proverbs Chapter 1 to 9 actually lay out a very good framework for looking at the book and we’ll use it to give a much clearer understanding of the book of Proverbs (and the wisdom of God).

Really, God’s wisdom pits itself against Man’s wisdom. I think it’ll be a great journey to discover how these two are so different, and how God’s wisdom is literally miles above with wisdom of men.

Here’s the broad theme schedule:

An Intro to the way of wisdom/meet lady wisdom

God’s wise/Man’s wise (Ps. Roland)

Friendships/Relationships

Limits

I’ll be creating posts for each one of these topics and adding more as we get closer to the date. For now, this is just to give you a heads up.
